3/3/03
International Threesome Observance Day
|
(2/28/03,Philadelphia, USA)
Crystal Syben Haidl, editor of III, a soon
to be published pictorial and true story anthology about threesome
sexual encounters, had planned to celebrate the triple-three date
of 3/3/03 with a big book party. But this winter's perpetually inclement
weather on the East coast, prompted her to think on a grander and
more individually celebrated scale instead, naming March 3rd as
International Threesome Observance Day-an opportunity to philosophize,
fantasize and /or indulge in the sexual encounter of three people
having sex together. (Not to be confused with the misused menage
a trois, "household of three"-when two people openly have
sex with the same partner, but NOT at the same time.)
Says Syben Haidl, "I see it as
an annual day of sexual awareness, a Valentine's Day giving tribute
to sexuality and the dynamics of three-if you want to do a threesome
or not." According to a decade old survey conducted in 1993
by Samuel S. And Cynthis L. Janus: one out of every five sexually
active adults in cosmopolitan cities in the US has been involved
in a threesome encounter, at least once in their lives. One can
imagine that the ratio of threesome-devotees might be more increased
today, given how much men's and women's magazines exalt triadic
sex as the favorite fantasy of both genders.
Even for those not inclined towards
threesomes, 3/3/03 provides a great opportunity to ponder the kinetics
of the number three in our world history, culture and even in nature.
'Three' has been universally philosophized as the the number of
synthesis and the sum of opposites-from Columbus's three ships to
the Olympic medals to the three elements of sound(harmony, rythym,
melody) .Even every major religion honors the role of three in significant
ways (Christian trinity, Jewish Rosh Hashana, Hindi and Buddhist
AUM and the three most holy names for God in the Islamic Bismillah).
It seems that curiosity about adding
a third in our beds is just part of our natural desire to compare
and integrate?
"Afterall, we do live on the third
planet from the sun, and two hydrogens do combine rather significantly
with that single oxygen,"
reminds Syben Haidl.
International Threesome Observance
Day shares March 3 with I Want You To Be Happy Day, a Florida grandmother's
date of choice for being thoughtful and loving to others. (Not quite
sure if threesomes are what she had in mind, though.)
So on 3/3/03, contemplate the
threes and make someone happy in what ever way comes natural to
you.
Talking Points
for Threesomes 3/3/03 III:Images of Fantasy and Experience
| 1.What is International Threesome Observance
Day? |
(And in what ways should people celebrate it?)
|
a)see attached press release for background
|
b)It's a personal-choice observance day, and coincidentally coincides with
|
"I want to make you happy day" (check Hallmark, that's really on calendars). People should be creative but not do anything
they'd feel badly about later. Maybe they can start by asking everyone at work if they ever did (or wanted to do) a
threesome and see what happens from there?
|
2. What made you want to do
a book about threesomes?
Originally Crystal wanted to do a book about penises but an independent film producer friend didn't think the idea was
sellable. (The Book of the Penis came out later that year). But he and Crystal (during the same phone conversation) discussed
all the people they knew from different religious, political and lifestyle backgrounds who had done a threesome (including
themselves, but alas not with each other). And the rest is book history.
|
| 3. What's the difference between
a menage a trois and a threesome? |
Well, they have both involve three people, but a menage a trois translates into "household for three" and describes 2 people
openly sharing the same partner sexually but not at the same time, or even in the same room (but maybe the same hour).
A threesome, also called a triad, is when 3 people are in the same room together and all three are participating in some way
(just being in the room can count, depending how intently the third person is watching or breathing on the other two).
|
| 4. Why is III a self publish? |
Crystal got over 100 rejection slips between agents and publishers who felt that threesomes aren't mainstream. That the
public doesn't want to read real stories or see beautiful pictures about threesomes. Maybe they don't listen to radio or read
magazines? So in the American Entrepreneurial spirit, Crystal aims to prove them wrong and publish a Signed, Numbered,
Limited Edition 1000 print run herself.
|
| 5. So why is the public invited to participate
in the book? |
Doesn't everyone fantasize about being in a sex book? Crystal is inviting Bob and Tom fans to be the first national listeners
to help support the book's publishing and be in the book themselves. Personal thank you call:
All listeners who support the book will get a personal thank you phone call from Crystal (guaranteed-- they do have to give
a "real #" to be called. Be in the Book: The first 600 people to order can choose to be in the book themselves by submitting
their name, initials or personal sentiment to be printed in all 4000 copies. We'll be asking for story and photo submissions
for the sequel, too.
|
6. Is this the first time an editor ever asked for grass roots
support for a book? |
Singers and actors have Star Search and American Idol. Isn't it time books got some "reality programming" other than
Oprah-style? Basically, Crystal is a struggling editor, (who cleans houses for a living, if anyone in the Philadelphia,
South Jersey area needs their house cleaned, give her a call). 3 and ½ years of her money and hard-earned, uhh, field
research have gone into the book. And all the struggling writers, models, photographers and editing staff have been
volunteering their time, depending on Crystal to have their dedication pay off. Kind of a Rocky Balboa for sex books.

1.The Photos 130 black and white

|
with dueling penises.
|
b) the local Philly/Baltimore/Atlantic City radio and college search for models (nudist colony applicants, too.
Myths about most nudists bodies are true)
c) the "missing erection" lost film roll (anyone see it on the Internet?)
d) the photographers who doubled as models
|
| 2. The Stories an
anthology of 14 true encounters covering EVERY variation of
threesome |
Quirky or funny highlights:

b) A woman is invited for Christmas Eve dinner with two ex-boyfriends and gets entired into a hot tub rendezvous together
with them
c) The virginal college girl who gets kisses on the neck by both a female and male classmate while watching a Count Dracula
video in her dorm.
d) A young guy is astounded to be invited by his friend to come over and have sex with his wife, while the husband watches
them. Years later he finds himself with another couple and the husband gets a little more playful with him than he likes.
(In another story, another man has a threesome with a couple and he ends up enjoying what the husband does to him...
different folks...)
e) a lesbian finds her girlfriend with another woman and joins them in a passionate sex war between them
f) two sisters are protected by a handsome stud during a hurricane, enticed with a little kahlua
g) a gay man yearns to be a Cinderella for the night, never gets Prince Charming, but has his first and only double instead.
